Walnut is a species of tree that grows primarily in the central-eastern section of North America. The high demand for the material has made it a popular veneer option for furniture, cabinets, and accent walls. Walnut is the softest hardwood for flooring; it has a 1010 Janka rating (21.71% softer than oak). The softness of the wood makes walnut versatile lumber. Furniture, decorative pieces, veneers, instruments, etc. are all created from walnut. The color of the walnut ranges from light to dark brown. The lighter wood comes from, the younger parts of the tree/ branches; where certain lumber pieces are used to have this effect, it is uncommon with less desirable lumber.
